Research and Planning: Magazine Progress.

This is the progress of my double page spread. So far, I've chosen a new cover photo and used my previous to go onto the left. Additionally, I filtered it and gave it a signature. I'm not very happy with the signature font, so I plan on changing it to a serif or sans serif font, but most likely sans serif. I also plan on writing my story on the right page, using my draft.

This is my current progress, I ended up changing the cover image and I'm adding two photos on the bottom left of pullout posters to make my magazine a little more interactive. 

My cover isn't actually black and white, but the screen cap went wrong so the coverlines, banners and masthead are still the same.

This is what my magazine looks like so far. As you can tell, I changed from a medium close up to a close up. However, I'm not too keen on the photo itself as the cover, because I feel it is very strong yet not fitting to present my genre. I'm going to rechoose another photo of the same model to be on my front, and the cover photo will be the left page of my double page spread. I also don't like the cover lines, as they seem to interfere with the model's face. So, a medium close up will be more beneficial to keep my model's face fixed and separated from the cover lines. As for the header bar, masthead, barcode and information along the bottom, I'm happy. All I need to change is the picture and my cover lines.

These are some of the extra shots I took. I will have to go back out next Monday to take more.

I particularly like this one, and would probably use it for my double page spread.

Research and Planning: Makeup Test Shots.

These are the test shots to the four different makeup looks I think would suit my music magazine genre, in terms of Mise-en-scène. 

The first is a very simple look, with a thick layer of waterline eyeliner and some mascara.

The second is also quite simple, with eyeliner, and the corners of my eyes outlined with eyeliner.

For the third, I filled in the flicks to make a full cateye. This isn't as easy to make, but it is bold.

The fourth is the most complex, using eyeshadow to create a smokey look.

I think for my music magazine, I will go for the first look. This is because despite the last two being very bold and making a statement, many alternative rock females spend very little time in makeup in order to seem much more natural. 

I didn't do any test shots using lipstick or blusher, as the eyes are always the most important, and multiple artists usually pay little attention to anything else other than the eyes.

This is what my magazine looks like so far on the cover. It's likely that I'm going to change this image, because it's not very strong. Despite the fact the photo is very high quality and well taken, I just don't think I like the layout. I think the magazine cover itself doesn't look very professional, so I'm going to change the image.
