Research and Planning: All Pictures.

Pictures that weren't used on the magazine cover.

Research and Planning: Magazine Contents Page Layout.

Here is the sample layout of my magazine contents page.
The colour scheme will consist of a light grey background, yellow/orange headers and white text. The same logo I designed on my magazine cover for 'Clarendon College' will be used.
To make this, I:
  • Opened a new file on InDesign.
  • Created guides, and had two (middle, teal lines) guidelines for my text boxes.
  • Applied the text, changed fonts, sizes, and height.

Research And Planning: My Magazine Cover.

I made the cover to my magazine over Photoshop. To do this, I:
  • Cut out an imagine of myself, and setted it onto a white background.
  • Added text, price, and title.
  • Used a seperate barcode from an image.

Research and Planning: Magazine Fonts.

In this task, we took three titles from magazine covers and used fonts from Dafont.com to suit the theme.
  • The first title was Popworld, a magazine for a younger audience, girls typically.
  • The second was a movie magazine called Popcorn, where film reviews and releases are.
  • The last was DeathMetal, a magazine about rock and metal music.

To do this, I:
1. Opened a new project on Photoshop.
2. Downloaded three different fonts from Dafont.com, and installed them.
3. Opened up three text boxes on the document, and selected the fonts.
4. Wrote the titles individually, and altered the colours.

Research and Planning: Magazine Cover Drawing.

I designed a sample layout for a magazine cover, using the evidence from my analysed college magazine covers.

Research and Planning: Interviews.

1. The participants wanted to know about school events, and news around the college. They were also interested in gossip stories.
2. The participants also enjoyed bold mastheads, and impacting fonts and sizes.
3. They preferred a bright colour scheme.
4. They would be willing to pay between 50p and £1.
5. The fonts recommended were impact, and Times New Roman.

Research and Planning: Audience Interviews. (Question Sheet.)

I'm going to record three participants during a set of five questions.

QUESTIONS:

1. Stories you would like to read about?
2. What do you think of the magazine masthead?
3. What are your thoughts on the colour scheme?

4. How much would you be willing to pay?
5. Which fonts should we use?

Research and Planning: Medium Close-Ups.

These shots are examples of medium-close ups. They're from the chest upwards, including the face. I am going to include one of these on my college magazine cover.

Research and Planning: Magazine Review.

Movie Review Task, Magazine Page.
Today, I created a magazine page on the programme InDesign.

To do this, I got a magazine review from the internet, and an image of the Mockingjay cover, to go with it.

  • I opened InDesign, and then split the page into sections.
    • I also added one text box, and pasted the review. As the review did not fit the first text box, I added another, and the review continued until it was completed. Additionally, I then spaced out the text to separate and align the boxes.
  • Finally, I added the image, cropped it to size, and applied it to the page!

Research and Planning: College Magazine Analysis.

Techniques in this magazine cover.
A medium shot of a student/young adult, which immediately targets who the magazine is for.
There's a large masthead, which is in capital letters, so it's obvious what the basis of the magazine is about, and particularly who the target market is, and where.
The most important parts of a story are in capital letters, to draw attention to which parts mean the most, or which parts will sell more copies.
The colour and font scheme is specific, to keep the magazine looking professional. The colours look cohesive to one another, and the background.
The barcode is also an implication of the magazine cover.

Research and Planning: Magazine Covers

These are the covers to college magazines. What they all have in common, are large mastheads to capture attention, photos of teenagers/young adults to appeal to the target audience, and short text selections to indicate a story in which can be read inside. The stories are usually relatable to the target audience, or they sound interesting. There's a barcode on each magazine cover to indicate that it is a magazine, and there's also only a few types of fonts, to keep the theme simple.

Research and Planning: Photoshop Task.

Today, I did a Photoshop Task.

  • Firstly, I had to open up an A4 document to work on. To find this, I pressed 'new' in the File section, and changed the paper size to International.
  • After, I wrote: AS Media Studies, and changed the font to Century Gothic, size 24. I highlighted the text to change the size and font, then changed the colour to red.
  • I also added a drop shadow, which I got from the Layer section, Layer Styles.
  • To add the person, Kalel Cullen, to the picture, I added a second document to Photoshop. I used the lasso tool (magnetic) to cut her out, and added her to the picture.
  •  I changed her hair colour using the paint tool on the, 'Color' layer.
  • And did the same to add the border around her.

Research and Planning: Skin Tutorial

This is the skin tutorial I did.

  • Firstly, I used the spot healing tool to remove any blemishes from the girl's face.
  • Afterwards, I applied a second layer to the photo, which was a background copy; and blurred the female's face. I then altered the opacity to a lower scale, so it looked realistic.
  • For the hair, I used a new layer, selected an orange tone, and used the paint option on 'colour' in order for the shade to be realistic.
  • After, I added another layer for the black eyeshadow and pink lipstick, which had a lower opacity too, for a realistic finish. The same applies for the cheeks.
(Used spot healing tool to remove eyebrows!)

Research and Planning.

My First Photoshop.

  • Creating this cover, I used Photoshop.
  • I used the ecliptic marquee tool in order to get the CD shape, and placed it onto the musical background.
  • For the horn, I used a magic wand tool, and inverted the selected space to cut out the horn, which I placed above the CD shape.
  • As for the musical notes, I added them using the layers option.
  • The text was applied afterwards, and I changed the fonts, colour and size before placing it.
  • As for the colours of the CD and horn, I used a colour adjustment option.
